Beautiful Black woman with long locks and red butterflies in her hair stands proudly wearing a lacy strapless black bra, ripped denim jeans open that reveal her pregnant belly, and an oversized white button-down shirt draped behind her back.

Pregnancy and postpartum have you randomly sobbing, lonely, and over-freaking-whelmed.

This is not what you expected, and the support you need is somehow just… missing?

WELCOME TO KINDRED CARE COLLECTIVE.

We got you.

Kindred Care Collective is creating a healing community space in Oakland by & for mamas* & caregivers,

Because every caregiver deserves to be cared for.

*“Mama” is a shorthand. We welcome mothers, birthing people, trans parents, step-parents, grandparents, queer parents, foster and adoptive parents… If you’re caring for a little one, you belong here.

HERE’S WHY

Pregnancy and postpartum are soul-shaking, life-reconfiguring, often traumatic experiences.

When a human is navigating these turbulent transitions, they need and deserve support — nourishing meals, healing movement, fellow travelers to rage and cry with, paid time off.

We've all heard the dreamy tales of Northern European countries with — gasp! — a whole year of paid parental leave for both parents, free support groups and pelvic floor therapy, even free daycare.

But in the US, expecting and new parents are left to fend for themselves. The resources that do exist are expensive and culturally exclusionary to most.

That leaves us where exactly? Overwhelmed, exhausted, isolated, and depressed.

In the US, the vast majority of new parents are lonely. Suicide and homicide are the leading causes of death for prenatal and postpartum people.

That is deeply messed up, and we're out to change it — in our little pocket of Oakland at least.

OUR MISSION

We are a multicultural grassroots group that believes support, connection, and healing for caregivers is a sacred human right.

Our mission is to create a community center that is financially, culturally, and emotionally accessible for a truly diverse group of expecting & new parents to find healing, community, and resources in Oakland.

We honor the richness of our cultures and the wisdom of our ancestors, and we center low-income, queer and trans, and BBIPOC mamas and caregivers.

All while providing free & sliding-scale resources that perinatal folks need and deserve: emotional support, education, movement, physical healing, and resources like diapers.

WHAT WE DO

Kindred Care Collective is a brand new baby, and we’re still in the dreaming / building / fundraising phase.

We’re not operating yet, but here’s the dreamy vision we’re working toward:

Space

A colorful, cozy space…

Where you can sip tea while leaning into deep cushions, commiserate and celebrate with other caregivers, feed and change your cooing baby, and give your body the healing it longs for.

Healing

Perinatal support groups…

So that your tearful overwhelm finds friends, and you can crowdsource wisdom for how to survive parenthood.

(Other mamas >> Google.)

Resources

Practical support like…

Free baby necessities that are organized for you, so you don’t have to spend another god-damn second looking for a 6-month onesie and a new diaper after the latest blowout.

Advocacy

An advocacy platform…

So you can channel your rage against the system into a force for change for other caregivers and future generations.

Education

Workshops and education…

So you can connect with needed resources and understand your rights as a working parent.
